Construction work is forcing two connecting stretches of Loop 101 through Scottsdale and Tempe to shut down in opposite directions this weekend.
From Chaparral Road to Loop 202, the northbound lanes are off-limits to traffic beginning at 9 p.m. Friday. And from Loop 202 to Baseline Road, the southbound lanes will be closed starting at 11 p.m.
Both restrictions are scheduled to end at 5 a.m. Monday.
Also closed, from 9 a.m. Friday through Monday morning, will be the center and left southbound lanes between the Pima/Princess interchange and Shea Boulevard. The right lane and all ramps will remain open.
For the closure north of Loop 202, the following detours are recommended:
Take 202 east to Alma School Road, exit and head north to McDowell Road. From McDowell, traffic will be routed westward to Pima Road where it will head north to Chaparral and return to Loop 101.
Exit Loop 101 at Rio Salado Parkway and drive west to Hayden Road. From there, take Hayden north to Chaparral and return to the freeway.
For the closure south of Loop 202:
Exit Loop 101 at Rio Salado, drive the frontage road south and re-enter the freeway at Baseline.
The closures are due to the Arizona Department of Transportation's work to construct high-occupancy vehicle lanes in the freeway's median.
