Scottsdale’s fifth annual Hispanic Heritage ¡Celebración Comunitaria! will be held at the Civic Center Mall amphitheater on Saturday night. Admission is free.
There will be booths promoting cultures and countries, local artists displaying their wares, children’s activities and food vendors.
On the main stage, entertainment includes Latin band PowerDrive and Salsa-performing dance team Rumba Azteca.
The Scottsdale Prevention Institute will showcase a community art project with the theme of “Freedom.” Participants’ individual pieces of art will be displayed on the event’s “Tree of Life” to be placed behind center stage.
Also during the event, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art is showcasing art reflecting the area’s Hispanic culture.
The event began as an internal city employee gathering in 2000, but has grown into a communitywide celebration attracting about 3,000 people every year since 2002.
Proceeds from the event, and the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dinner Celebration, are used to fund youth scholarships.
