Students who want to write about their "Every day" hero have until Friday to submit the essay for a chance to win tickets to a Phoenix Coyotes game.

The Town of Gilbert is inviting all Gilbert, Higley and Mesa students in fourth, fifth and sixth grades to participate in the "Every day heroes" writing contest, hosted by the Gilbert and Mesa fire departments.

"Every day" heroes can be a family member, teacher, neighbor or community member. The essay should address what makes that person a hero.

The winning Gilbert/Higley student will receive:

• 4 tickets to the Jan. 7 Phoenix Coyotes game against the New York Islanders;

• Tickets for his or her entire class (and one chaperone ticket per student) to the Jan. 7 Coyotes game;

• A chance to take his or her hero to meet a Phoenix Coyotes player on game day.

A separate prize will be awarded the Mesa winner.

Essay contest forms available online at www.gilbertaz.gov. For more information, call (480) 503-6766.
