So much for escaping to Arizona in the winter to avoid snow.
Snow is falling in parts of the East Valley this afternoon - and some elected leaders usually extolling the state's sunshine are tweeting away about the unusual sight.
Mesa Mayor Scott Smith joked on Twitter that he's calling out the snow plows.
"Wait," he followed up in his tweet. "We don't have any snow plows! Guess you're on your own."
Mesa Councilwoman Dina Higgins sent a tweet that snow is falling in her east Mesa backyard. A photo shows flakes in the air and landing on a man's dark clothing.
