Four day-use areas and campgrounds on the Tonto National Forest, along with the Salt River Recreation Parking lot, will close beginning April 12 for construction projects this spring.
Goldfield, Coon’s Bluff, Phon D Sutton and Granite Reef day-use recreation areas on the Lower Salt River will be effected. For safety, the closures will prohibit both vehicle and foot traffic within the entire site while demolition and construction activites take place.
Rest-room facilities will be replaced with concrete vault-style toilet facilities compliant with the American with Disabilities Ac. Funding for these projects comes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and is intended to improve facilities in areas where recreation fees are charged.
The following is the closure schedule:
Goldfield Recreation site closed: April 12 - May 4
Salt River Recreation parking lot closed: April 12 - April 27
Granite Reef closed: April 16 - May 6
Phon D Sutton closed: April 20 - May 6
