Arizona Department of Public Safety Officer Robert Martin has been gone for more than 14 years, but his family and friends will continue to remember him by cleaning a mile section of the Beeline Highway close to where he was shot and killed while making a traffic stop.
At 9 a.m. Saturday, the public can attend a briefing in the parking lot of the Fort McDowell Casino, 10424 N. Fort McDowell Road, before being bused to Mile Post 196 southbound on the Beeline Highway to begin cleaning the highway. Participants will work their way down to where a memorial remains in place for Martin.
Martin, 57, of Chandler, was shot and killed while making a traffic stop on Aug. 15, 1995, according to information from the Arizona Highway Patrol Association.
Lunch will be provided for the participants, who will be bused back to the casino about 1 p.m.
