Officials have announced a high pollution advisory for Thursday beginning at midnight.
Particulate matter in the air is expected to exceed federal health standards.
Valley Metro spokesman Jeff Reed suggested residents carpool, bike, telecommute or ride the bus to work. Residents should avoid mowing their lawns, and people with respiratory illnesses should minimize outdoor activity, Reed said.
The advisory will last 24 hours.
