The cause of a fire that destroyed a 6,000-square-foot home in an exclusive north Scottsdale gated community -- and caused an estimated $1.4 million in damage -- remains unknown but is not considered suspicious, according to Tiffany Nichols, spokeswoman for the Scottsdale Fire Department.

The fire started about 4:30 a.m. Monday in the two-story home in the 12500 block of North 116th Street in the Ancala community. The homeowner reported seeing smoke and water near a fireplace.

Two people were in the residence when the fire broke out but were able to get out safely, according to information from the fire department.
