Eight-year-old Lita Vorseth of Mesa finished third in the Annual Pitch, Hit and Run festivities on Monday leading up to Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game in Kansas City.

Lita, the daughter of John and Fuji Vorseth, who plays catcher in Mesa Little League’s District 7 White Sox team in the 9-10-11-year-old division, was the only player from Arizona among 24 other youth baseball players participating in this year’s event to display her baseball skills. She represented the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Lita received a trophy for her efforts and also received an all-expense paid trip to the game, where she mingled with the National League All-Stars in the dugout. She also met pitcher Wade Miley, the D-Backs lone starting member of the all-Star Team.

Lita, who finished second in last year’s Pitch, Hit and Run competition, hopes to return to the competition next year in Yankee Stadium in New York where the All-Star Game will be played.
