Starting Thursday, readers will notice some changes at our website.

While the look and feel of EastValleyTribune.com remains mostly unchanged, we’ve simplified navigation, cleaned up our homepage and made content easier to find.

Our print product emphasizes news that is important to the entire East Valley, and we want our website to reflect that same philosophy.

We’ve also moved to a new web host to help manage our content. This means that current users of EastValleyTribune.com will need to create a new user account to comment on stories and submit items for our calendar.

By popular demand, we’ve increased our coverage in Tempe and have restored the link on our website to that content.

Also be sure to check out the “East Valley Spotlight” section on our homepage (right below the “Top Stories”), where you can scroll through stories that have a lasting impact in our communities.

The “Get Out” section remains the place to read about events and entertainment in the East Valley and beyond. Our previous Events Calendar is being updated so you will see a slight delay in updating our events, but we will soon have available an events “kit” to help our users post their own information.

Our popular staff blogs — Nerdvana, EV Moms, ED Xtra, the VarsityXtra blog, Lawn Griffiths’ Spiritual Life, Jim Ripley’s blog and What’s the Deal? — will appear in a new format with temporarily limited features while we work on upgrading and expanding their presentation in the near future.

Joining them under the “Blogs” tab will be Ken Colburn’s weekly Data Doctors column, where you can get expert help with all your computer issues and easily find all of his content from now on.

The VarsityXtra site remains under construction during the transition.

The East Valley’s most trafficked site for local high school sports information will be back online in a familiar format as soon as we can make the necessary modifications to the system to manage content and keep all the bells and whistles you have become accustomed to using.

For more about changes to VarsityXtra, see page 23. Completing this transition from our previous host and bringing all the pieces together that we have added over the years has been a long and drawn-out process that will continue to evolve as the site does.

One thing is, for sure, we are not done yet. There will be much work to do but we believe this is the first step toward a new and improved web presence for the East Valley Tribune.

We greatly appreciate your patience as we work through this process. Sign up at EastValleyTribune.com and let us know what you think.
