For the hungry in our community, an empty bowl signifies a lack of food. At the Tempe Empty Bowls event (www.tempeemptybowls.org), it signifies a chance for the local community to help fight hunger in Tempe. With the $10 purchase of a handmade bowl, Whole Foods Market will offer a simple meal of soup and bread, symbolic of the caloric intake that must sustain many in our community for an entire day.
The 2013 Tempe Empty Bowls will be held two days - Feb. 22 at Sixth Street Park (just south of City Hall in Downtown Tempe), and Feb. 23 in the Community Center Courtyard, 3500 S. Rural Road, between Tempe Public Library and Vihel Center buildings on the southwest corner of Rural and Southern. Both events will be held 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Hand-crafted bowls, planter pots, mugs, necklaces, platters and vases, made by potters at the City of Tempe Ceramics Program, local artists, and Tempe schoolchildren will be available for purchase.
Proceeds benefit Tempe Community Action Agency (www.tempeaction.org), the Escalante Community Garden and United Food Bank’s Kid’s Café program (www.unitedfoodbank.org). Last year, more than 650 bowls were sold.

Well, first of all it's not "CHARITY" when you are giving money and getting something in return.
CHARITY IS GIVING....PERIOD..........NO CLAP ON THE BACK, NO "THANK YOU", NO RECOGNITION AND CERTAINLY NO..........."SOUP BOWL".
IF YOU WANT TO GIVE TO FEED THE NEEDY THEN DO IT BUT YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE "INTICED" TO GIVE BY GETTING SOMETHING BACK IN RETURN.
IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT "REAL" CHARITY IS...THEN OPEN THE ..GOOD BOOK AND START READING.
