The Gilbert Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit will be hosting a drug disposal event for people who need to throw away old prescription drugs or pills as part of the "National Take Back Initiative" so drugs won't get in the wrong hands.

The event, which will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 25 in the department's parking lot at 75 E. Civic Center Drive, is being held in partnership with the Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration.

At the event, residents are encouraged to deliver their prescription and over-the-counter drugs that are expired or no longer needed to the on-site police officer for proper disposal.

The drugs must be placed in a clear plastic bag and all liquid medication must be left in its original container.

Syringes or bio-waste will not be accepted during the event.
