A priest at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mesa has been appointed as pastor to St. Timothy's Catholic Community in that city.
The Rev. Charlie Goraieb, who has served at Queen of Peace for a number of years, starts at St. Timothy's effective July 6, Robert DeFrancesco, a spokesman for the Diocese of Phoenix confirmed on Thursday. Queen of Peace is set to begin its search for a new priest.
DeFrancesco also said that the Rev. John Parks has been appointed as parochial vicar at St. Timothy's, also effective July 6.
The Rev. Thomas Bennett will begin serving as the parochial administrator for Queen of Peace on July 6, and the Rev. Eric Houseknecht of St. Timothy's is returning to his home Diocese of Charlotte, N.C., according to information from the Phoenix diocese.
Goraieb replaces the Rev. Jack Spaulding, who resigned from St. Timothy's on June 20. Spaulding is being investigated by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome over allegations that he engaged in sexual misconduct with a minor at a Scottsdale parish more than 25 years ago, according to information from the Phoenix diocese.
Bishop Thomas Olmsted, who appointed Goraieb and the others to the positions, will celebrate Mass at St. Timothy's on Sunday.
