Independent public libraries in Maricopa County now have $1 million more to invest in books, CDs, DVDs or other materials thanks to the newly implemented Library Materials Assistance Program recently approved by the Maricopa County Board of Library Directors.

The Maricopa County Library District has budgeted the funds for the current fiscal year. The independent libraries that wish to participate must provide free borrowers cards that ensure full use of their library to all Maricopa County residents. Communities eligible for the program include the East Valley cities of Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa and Tempe.

Gilbert is currently the only East Valley city part of the Maricopa County Library District’s system of libraries. For more information about the 17 county libraries, visit www.mcldaz.org
