Tempe police have made an arrest in connection with a hit-and-run incident with a bicycle last month that left a woman hospitalized with serious injuries.

Justin Allen Erickson, 19, of Tempe was arrested Monday morning and charged with leaving the scene of a serious physical injury accident, a class two felony. Police said Sunday they had found the vehicle but had yet to locate the driver, but ultimately located Allen after he returned to the Valley on a flight to Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport.

Police say the incident – which has hospitalized Jessica Durand, 25, with serious injuries for the last two weeks – occurred about 8:11 p.m. on May 28 near Rural and Broadway roads when the vehicle struck the bicycle before fleeing the scene.

According to Tempe police, Erickson “made admissions to the crime,” also admitting to leaving the scene while impaired by alcohol.
