Police arrested a man Tuesday in connection with the 2001 slaying of Vestel Billeter in Tempe, police said.

Sean Hall, 21, was arrested at 4 30 E. Roosevelt St. in Phoenix and was booked into Maricopa County’s Madison Street Jail in Phoenix on suspicion of second-degree murder, said Tempe police officer Jeff Lane. Police said Billeter, 40, was strangled and beaten to death with a baseball bat at 30 W. Carter Drive by three of his teenage friends.

They took Billeter’s body to the desert near Gold Canyon and set it on fire.

Police said Billeter had made passes at the teens’ girlfriends. Preston James Pa l mer, 19; Jason Lee Lacewell, 18; and Gene Patrick Beck, 18, were arrested days afterward. The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office had filed a complaint against Hall but had not yet charged him with seconddegree murder in the case.
