A 9-month-old boy who had fallen into a backyard family swimming pool on Sunday has died.
The child, who wandered away from adults during a family function at a home in the 1600 block of East Gable during the 4th of July holiday, was pronounced dead late Monday, according to Detective Steven Berry, a Mesa police spokesman, and Forrest Smith, a Mesa fire spokesman.
The pool did not have a fence around it, according to Berry.

This is so pathetic that a toddler of this age could wander away from their family and drown like this. It's so irresponsible when you don't have a fence as it is, but why wasn't someone watching this little one. Pretty sad.
