Mesa police say a 13-year-old girl who ran away from home with a convicted sex offender has been found in California.

Investigators say Alyssa Cavagnaro took her mother's car and debit card and fled with 19-year-old Gary Chris Legault on Tuesday or Wednesday. Police say Legault is a convicted sex offender and is prohibited from being around minors and having communication with them.

The California Highway Patrol says Cavagnaro and Legault were located Thursday afternoon in Monterey after they were involved in a rollover accident. The two fled from the crash scene on foot into a wooded area and were taken into custody by CHP officers without incident.

Authorities say Cavagnaro and Legault were not injured in the crash. They both are being held until they can be transported back to Arizona.
