Police have a suspect in custody after a shooting outside an East Mesa nail salon on Saturday.

Mesa police Det. Steve Berry said the shooting happened in the parking lot outside Elite Nails near Power and McKellips roads just before 2 p.m.

Berry said police believe a former employee had come to the salon to pick up a paycheck when a current employee stepped outside to talk to him and the suspect shot the current employee.

Berry said the 28-year-old male victim was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.

The male 36-year-old suspect, a Mesa resident, was taken into custody at the scene and was booked into jail on one count of aggravated assault, three counts disorderly conduct with a weapon and one count reckless discharge of a weapon.

Saturday night, Berry said it is still unclear why the suspect shot the victim.
