Allegiant Airways will halt flights from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport to Honolulu in August for a short time, an airways spokesperson said Tuesday.
“We’re doing a short seasonal hiatus for that route. We’re not cancelling the route. It’s something we commonly do,” said Allegiant’s Jessica Wheeler.
The airline held an event in February to celebrate its nonstop route to Hawaii from Mesa. Wheeler said the airline flies there two to three times a week, depending on customers.
“We are very flexible in meeting the demand in the market. If people want to go, we’ll fly three times week,” she said, noting the route is “doing well.”
“It’s particularly popular in summer, as would be suspected. Our entire focus is on the leisure traveler. Leisure, vacation travel is not as popular in September, October. That’s when children go back to school and people hunker down for work. Then it picks up again,” she said.
