Pen Pals

Carolyn Black and Maisy Racine, 11, a fifth grader at Chandler’s Navarette School, meet for the first time on Wednesday after exchanging letters throughout the school year as pen pals. About 26 students in teacher Joanne Terrell’s class have been writing seniors at Friendship village of Tempe letters for twice a month since the beginning of the school year. On Wednesday, the seniors visited the school for lemonade, music from the school’s string chorus and heard the students read poems about friendship. [Mike Sakal/Tribune]
