Red Mountain at No. 10 Desert Mountain...

It’s a race to be the best 1-4 team in the state between Red Mountain and Brophy (advantage Red Mountain since it beat Brophy for that lone win a couple weeks ago). After a 44-14 loss to Chaparral last week, the surreal schedule continues with the Lions as they head up to Shea Blvd. in Scottsdale to face the Wolves, a team stewing after its meltdown against Chaparral two weeks, a slew of injuries and loss last week to Horizon. It goes without saying Red Mountain needs to turn itself around fast to have any chance at a postseason spot, even with its brutal schedule somewhat helping (three losses have been by five points or fewer). It also goes without saying Desert Mountain needs to do much the same, and the Wolves should get a boost with the return of WR Mark Andrews after he missed the latter parts of the Chaparral game and last week with a leg injury. Desert Mountain also gets LB Blake Hutchings back, though it lost starting offensive lineman Coleman Martin to a season-ending knee injury. Still, the return of Andrews is a huge boost to the offense, defense and special teams (he’s the punter), and the Lions have yet to figure out a way to get more production out of their offense...

Prediction: Desert Mountain 24, Red Mountain 17
