Where can you see roses bloom in the desert? The Rose Garden at Mesa Community College proudly showcases more than 9,000 rose bushes of more than 300 varieties.

To prepare for the next blooming cycle in mid-March, the Rose Garden is looking for volunteers with gardening skills to spare in the largest rose garden in the southwestern United States.

Volunteers are needed to prune and deadhead thousands of rose bushes and help cultivate and clean up the garden. Pruners are encouraged to bring their own gloves, pruning shears and gardening tools. Coffee and donuts are provided.

Experts are eager to demonstrate how to prune roses and keep your own garden looking beautiful. It’s a great opportunity to talk to the area’s foremost experts in rose gardening.

Volunteer opportunities are available at 8 a.m. Jan. 4, 11, 18 and 25, and Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22. The Rose Garden at Mesa Community College is at 1833 W. Southern Ave. To help, call (480) 461-7022 or email rosegarden@mesacc.edu.
