Legendary bluesman B. B. King is coming to the historic Celebrity Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 30.
As one of the world’s most identifiable guitar players, King is best known for hits such as “Three O’Clock Blues,” “The Thrill Is Gone,” and “Everyday I Have The Blues.” These and more were all artfully created with one of his trademark Gibson guitars named “Lucille.”
On the journey to perfect his sound, King borrowed from Blind Lemon Jefferson, T-Bone Walker and others, integrating his precise and complex vocal-like string bends and his left hand vibrato, both of which have become indispensable components of rock guitarists’ vocabulary. His technique and every-note-counts phrasing has been a model for thousands of players, from Eric Clapton and the late George Harrison to Jeff Beck.
King was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame in 1984 and into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. In 1987 he received NARAS’ Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award. He is the owner of the B. B. King Blues Club, which first opened in 1991 on Beale Street in Memphis.
To date he has released more than 60 albums and continues to tour, playing on average 250 shows per year around the world.
