It may be a “tale as old as time,” but "Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” will never feel old hat to generations of new children or eternal fans of romance and fairytales.
The classic story of Belle, a kindhearted bookworm, and the Beast, a handsome prince trapped by a spell in a big, hairy body, arrives April 9 at ASU Gammage in Tempe — and seats are already hard to come by for some performances.
The production is based on the Academy Award-winning 1991 animated movie and includes the same musical score, as well as several songs that did not appear in the film. Special effects and illusions, along with high-energy choreographed numbers, lend live dazzle to the story of a Beast who must learn to love and be loved before he and his household full of talking candlesticks, teapots and furniture are doomed for eternity.
