Some internet sensations burn fast and bright, then fizzle back into obscurity. Others get record deals and go on tour.
The Piano Guys, coming June 12 to Mesa Amphitheatre, are among those “others.” The quintet of dads — a pianist, a cellist, a piano store owner, a piano mover and a recording studio guru — struck a chord on YouTube with self-made music videos that mash up classical music and pop hits.
More than 200 million views later, The Piano Guys released their second album in May 2013 with Sony Masterworks’ imprint label Portrait.
For a preview of the show, check out the guys’ 35 online videos, from a 10-handed version of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” and the ambitious, Star Wars-inspired “Cello Wars” to arrangements that incorporate music from Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Adele, Coldplay, David Guetta and “The Bourne Identity” soundtrack. They’re at ThePianoGuys.com.
