You can catch a free play with your kids after school and work on Sept. 18.

Childsplay is mounting a free performance of its 2014-2015 national touring production, “Tomás and the Library Lady.”

The show, slated for 6:30 p.m. at Mesa Arts Center, is based on the true story of Mexican-American author and educator Tomás Rivera.

Recommended for children age 5 and older, the play is about a child of migrant farm workers who meets a librarian and gains a lifelong love of reading.

Tickets are not required for the show, but Childsplay does request an reservation to https://childsplaytomas.eventbrite.com/. Seating will be first come, first served.

This free showing of “Tomás and the Library Lady” is sponsored by the CALA Arts Alliance. Childsplay is Tempe-based nonprofit theatre company of professional, adult artists who perform for young audiences and their families.
