Often called the master of the Native American flute, R. Carlos Nakai will perform as part of The Carlos Nakai Trio on Jan. 24 during the Higley Center for the Performing Arts World of Music Series. The Trio will perform arrangements that were created by playing together without written music.

Nakai, of Navajo-Ute heritage, is known worldwide for his haunting and artistic expression of culture and inspiration through music. He has sold more than 4 million albums during his career and has won or been nominated for 10 Grammy Awards.

Percussionist Will Clipman is a master of 100 instruments and has been nominated for six Grammy Awards.

William Eaton is a unique musician who builds many of the stringed instruments he plays. He is well known for the creation of the lyraharp guitar, an instrument with two necks that uses technology to create the the sounds of nearly every musical instrument.

Together, the trio have received a combined total of 21 Grammy nominations, including one for the trio’s most recent album, “Dancing into Silence.” The group also received a NAMMY in 2000 from the Native American Music Awards for Best Instrumental. In 1995, the group hit the top of the Billboard charts for 13 weeks.
