Our favorite thing taking root in downtown Mesa these days: the Mesa Urban Garden.
A big and bold mural has been painted to liven up the space at 212 E. First Ave., and organizers are starting to transform what is now a dirt lot into a community gathering and growing space.
But they need help. The Mesa Urban Garden Community Build, to be held on the 9/11 National Day of Service, is 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sept. 11. Expect to work outside with shovels, rakes and dirt. Sign up via the garden’s website at MesaUrbanGarden.com.
