Days are numbered for an East Valley park ranger you may know and love from hikes and programs out at San Tan Mountain Regional Park in Queen Creek.

Adam Martell, who’s headed the park’s interpretive and outreach efforts for the past three years, says he’s “accepted a once in a lifetime opportunity to research sea turtles in Costa Rica.”

San Tan will hold a farewell hike for and with Martell at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at the park at 6533 W. Phillips Road.

The community is invited to come wish the ranger well and learn more about the work he’ll be doing with leatherback sea turtles.

The fee to enter the park is $6 per automobile. For information, call (480) 655-5554 or visit Maricopa.gov/parks/santan.
