When I was a kid and my mom shuttled us to activities, she often waited in the car, crocheting an afghan or reading a book.
Killing time while the kids have fun is something a lot of parents do. It’s part of what two Chandler moms took into account when they devised Xtreme Air Jump ’N Skate Park, an indoor playground that opened last month at 910 E. Pecos Road in Chandler.
The “jump and skate” portion of the facility features 30,000 air-conditioned square feet of skateboarding and BMX courses, trampolines, a Velcro wall, dodge ball and basketball courts, and an arcade.
Moms will get a little more mileage out of the place beginning noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, when Xtreme Bling Boutique hosts its grand opening party. Located within the park, the clothing and accessories shop will offer featherlock hair extensions, chair massages, a fashion show, free China Mist Tea, Fairytale Brownies, Paradise Bakery cookies and giveaways — all while the kids play under the same roof.
“We’re moms, and we know how it feels to always be waiting for your kids, to be looking out for your kids and family first and that your wants and needs can quickly be forgotten,” says Valorie Martin, the facility’s owner.
To that end, Martin and business partner Lisa Kirkham have dreamed up a lot under one roof. Aside from the boutique, there’s a coffee bar and café called The Grind and a parent lounge with free Wi-Fi and eight large television monitors — so you can keep an eye on the kids while you sip lattes and blog. Parents can also schedule a tanning session or a massage, or sign up for a fitness boot camp. Zumba, yoga and pilates classes are in the works.
