Weather reports say we’re in for a cool down this weekend, but thus far it has been a warm, decidedly un-wintry holiday season.

That’s why we’re liking the idea of Snow Much Fun Day at Children’s Museum of Phoenix.

Twenty tons of snow will be dumped on the downtown museum’s front lawn for the amusement of children 10 and younger. They’ll even have what museum staff is calling a “bunny slope” for the youngest visitors.

The event opens at 9 a.m., and snow play will last until the frigid heap melts. Santa will visit with children from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:20 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Parents are welcome to snap photos. St. Nick will read stories in the museum’s Book Loft from 1 p.m. to 1:20 p.m.

A snowflake craft takes place in the art studio from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Access to snow day activities is included with general museum admission, so plan to make a day of it, inside and out.

DETAILS >> 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15. Children’s Museum of Phoenix, 215 N. Seventh St. Included with museum admission of $11 per person age 1 and older. (602) 253-0501 or ChildrensMuseumofPhoenix.org.
