Miles of stucco-coated strip malls and houses topped with red tiles roofs got you feeling a little ... homogenized? The Modern Phoenix Expo might be the cure for what ails you.
Set for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, the event features slideshows, presentations and 20 pop-up shops devoted to the latest and greatest in Modernism, architecture, interior design, literature, home renovation, vintage fashion, jewelry, furniture, lighting and accessories.
Design experts will be on hand to field questions, and free presentations include “Creating Places of Peace in Modern Environments” and “Phoenix’s Street of Dreams: The Visual Extravaganza That Was Van Buren.”
Door prizes will be given out by exhibitors such as Copenhagen, Cosanti and Noble Beast.
The expo is free, but some presentations and tours scheduled for the day require a fee. For information and a schedule, visit ModernPhoenixWeek.com.
A sister website, ModernPhoenix.net, features an interactive map of more than 300 character-filled “Modern Phoenix” neighborhoods, vintage retailers and architectural landmarks, along with driving tours.
