The Phoenix Zoo will celebrate its 50th birthday with activities, photos from its past, and keeper talks about how the zoo and its animals have evolved over the past five decades.

The celebration takes place 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 17 and 18.

Guests will have the opportunity to create zoo exhibits of the future, check out veterinary gadgets of the past, and take a photo with one of the remaining 6-foot-tall bunnies that lined the Children’s Zoo entrance. Activities are included with general admission.

For information, call (602) 273-1341 or visit PhoenixZoo.org.

Five young women from Arizona Indian tribes will share their cultures’ principals and values through songs, dance, stories, dress and humor, competing in talent, traditional dress, interviews and other categories. Each woman receives a scholarship, and the winner serves as an ambassador for Arizona tribes for a year.
