“Tardeada” may be an unfamiliar word, but it’s a concept we can get behind: a social dance traditionally held on Sunday afternoons, this particular event — the Tempe Tardeada Festival — features free live entertainment, dancing, arts and crafts that celebrate Hispanic culture and heritage.

Free children’s activities include an inflatable obstacle course and slides, a video-game truck, face-painting, and making tissue-paper-flower hair pins, paper-plate maracas, and serapes.

More than 10 food vendors, like Guedo’s Taco Shop and Paletas Betty, will offer eats like churros, horchata, grilled corn on the cob, and burritos at family friendly prices. It’s noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Tempe Community Complex, 3500 S. Rural Road. For information, go to tempe.gov/tardeada .
