The bike builder you watch on reality TV is bringing two of his custom motorcycles, and the story of his faith, to Chandler.
Paul Teutul, Jr. — “Paulie” on the Discovery Channel’s “American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior” — will appear with his wife, Rachael, Sunday, Aug. 12, at Cornerstone Church. The couple will take part in a 30- to 40-minute question-and-answer session in five separate services. The services, at 7:45 a.m., 9 a.m, 10:30 a.m., 11:55 a.m. and 5 p.m., are free and open to anyone who would like to attend.
“They’ll both be here, sitting on our stage on couches with our pastor, and it will be interview style, going over how Paul Jr. got involved in building bikes, what it’s been like to have the reality TV shows, a little bit about the relationship between he and his dad,” says church events director Sharon Johnson.
“He and Rachael are newly married and starting their own family, and ... so we’re going to talk about the family legacy they’re starting out and how faith has played into that.”
Visitors will also get to inspect and photograph two choppers built by Teutul’s Paul Jr. Designs motorcycle shop. One is the bike that won the “American Chopper Live: The Build-Off” competition among Teutul, his father, Orange County Choppers’ Paul Teutul Sr., and Jesse James. The other is a motorcycle that will be revealed on the upcoming season of “American Chopper.”
The Teutuls’ interview will be integrated into a larger church service, according to Johnson.
“We encourage people to take part in the whole service; we think we’ve built a service where everyone can be comfortable.”
Cornerstone occasionally hosts high-profile personalities for similar events.
“Our goal is to bring in someone who has a great faith story but also has intrigue and interest in the community, so that people would not only be interested to come and hear them talk, but also to discover why someone who has achieved success in the world would want and need to know who God is.”
Johnson says Teutul told Cornerstone leaders that he realized, as he and Rachael geared up for marriage, that he wanted faith to play a larger role in his everyday life.
“They are both excited to come and speak as a couple on their own journey and where they’re at with growing in faith, as well as just the amazing opportunities they’ve had that allow them to do what they love.”
