Hundreds of dedicated classic car owners and thousands of auto enthusiasts will fill the streets of downtown Chandler during the 11th annual Classic Car & Hot Rod Show on Saturday, Feb. 22. In addition to the cars, there will be arts and crafts, car-related vendors, food booths and a beer garden with live entertainment by local bands.

This free event will showcase 250 pre-1980 cars and hot rods of various makes and models, plus a few specialty vehicles that are sure to draw a crowd, including the original Batmobile from the 1966-68 television show. Again this year, a prominent local collector will bring out one of the unique automobiles from his collection.

This year’s show will coincide with the third day of the Chandler Science Spectacular, part of the Arizona SciTech Festival that promotes and celebrates science. Chandler Science Saturday will be held east of Arizona Avenue and in front of the Community Center and Library, also from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free, all-ages event will feature interactive demonstrations and activities by area technology companies, including some that explore the relationship between automobile technology and science. Details on the Science Spectacular are online at ChandlerAZ.gov/science.

According to Maury Williamson, chairman of the Car Show event committee and owner of downtown’s Country Clipper Barber Shop, proceeds from the event will be donated to two nonprofits this year: American Service Animal Society Dogs4Vets (who train service dogs with their U.S. military veteran owners) and The Scott Detherage Foundation (who provide college scholarships to at-risk youth in the name of a former city employee).

Parking in downtown Chandler is free, and car show visitors are encouraged to utilize the two parking structures on the east side of Arizona Avenue (south of Chandler Boulevard), which can be accessed from East Buffalo and East Boston streets.
