Crazy about your dog? Want to spend quality time with him or her while enjoying company from dog owners like you? Look no further than the sixth annual Woofstock - The Great Chandler Dog Walk. This tail-waggin’ event at Tumbleweed Park features numerous events including interactive dog demonstrations, dog massages and a pet psychic.

Woofstock, which draws around 5,000 people, has a new element this year: the Walk of Honor. Sponsored by the American Service Animal Society, the Walk of Honor recognizes service dogs for veterans with “spot the service dog” where participants have a chance to win various prizes. Want to honor a special veteran in your life? You can purchase a sign along the route where a photo will be posted. All money raised through the walk will help purchase guide dogs for veterans.

Debbie Claseman, co-founder and director of American Service Animal Society, says the Walk of Honor has replaced the usual Charity Walk Event because the society wanted to focus more on their cause: disabled veterans.

“We felt that we were losing what the whole meaning of the event was, which is to raise awareness for disabled veterans and shelter and rescue dogs,” Claseman says. “The whole event is basically a huge thank you to the men and women that give us the liberties we have here in America.”

Other events include a raffle where contestants can purchase one ticket for $5 or five tickets for $20 for a chance to win two grand prizes, both of which feature two round trip tickets within the United States on Southwest Airlines. There will also be the annual pet costume contest, Pets On Parade, where the top three best-dressed pets will win gift baskets full of goodies.

Maricopa County Animal Care & Control Services will also be present throughout the walk, offering attendees a number of services including pet adoptions, rabies vaccinations, micro-chips, unaltered dog licenses, altered dog licenses and spay-neuter assistance program vouchers — all of which range from $10 to $42 in price.
