Q: Where do you eat out?
A: I like Charleston’s (in Chandler) for their salmon. I like Outback (in Chandler) also. For steaks, I like Fleming’s (in Chandler). That’s where I go for my ribeye. I’m more of a convenience diner, but I’ll travel when I really want something.
Q: What foods and restaurants are worth a longer drive?
A: When I want baby back ribs, it’s Don and Charlie’s in Scottsdale. I like their chicken pâté (called “Our Famous Chopped Liver Platter” on the menu), too. That’s an appetizer, and no place has that. They’re the only one I know of that still has it.
And Baby Kay’s (in Phoenix) — I like the jambalaya. I don’t have that big a craving for it — maybe every couple months — but when I do, I’ll pop over there.
Q: What brings you back to Fleming’s for that ribeye?
A: The dry rub that they use on it separates it from the others. And the way it’s cooked. I’m a straight steak guy; I’m real particular on what I get with it, so the steak has to be good.
