We could never pick a favorite when it comes to policemen and firemen, but we’ll happily vote with our taste buds for which one of their pizzas we like best.
Organ Stop Pizza is holding a friendly competition between Mesa Police and Fire to support The 100 Club of Arizona. Through Sept. 14, choose from four pizzas at the Mesa eatery: MPD’s Smokey BBQ Chicken Pizza and Hawaiian Five-0 Pizza, or MFD’s Buffalo Chicken Pizza and 5-Alarm Pizza. Twenty percent of every purchase will be donated to the 100 Club, a nonprofit that gives financial assistance to officers’ and firefighters’ families when they are seriously injured or killed in the line of duty.
At the end of the competition, on Sept. 15, pizza totals will be tallied, and a winner will be announced at a Community Safety Fair. The winning pizza will be added to the Organ Stop menu until the end of October, and every purchase of that pizza will continue to bring 20 percent of proceeds to the 100 Club of Arizona.
Organ Stop is at 1149 E. Southern Ave., and if you’ve never been it makes a fun family night out. A giant pipe organ provides entertainment, and cat puppets dance when it plays.
The free safety fair will be 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 15 at Organ Stop. It will feature live entertainment, fire and bicycle safety demonstrations, giveaways, health information and a pizza-eating contest. There will also be fire trucks and police cars to check out, plus police dogs and treats from Blue Bell Ice Cream.
Reach the restaurant at (480) 813-5700 or OrganStopPizza.com.
