Before Judge Lynn Toler of the show “Divorce Court” became famous for ruling on daytime TV, she had to learn to rise above the emotional baggage picked up as the child of a mentally ill father. The Harvard University grad and author of the book “My Mother’s Rules: A Practical Guide to Becoming an Emotional Genius” speaks Saturday from personal and professional experience on how to gain more and better emotional control through the ups and downs of life.

>> Judge Lynn Toler’s interactive presentation, “How to Become Cockpit Cool,” begins at 2 p.m. Saturday. Arizona Historical Society Museum, 1300 College Ave., Tempe. $20. (480) 398-6260 or brownpapertickets.com/event/135574.
