I love junk. And quite honestly, I’m not fond of sharing my hot spots for funky finds, but this place is just too good to keep to myself.
It’s called The Town Dump, and it’s set right off Cave Creek Road in Cave Creek. The name says it all.
When I arrived, I couldn’t decide if I dare go through the rickety wooden gate that said "Welcome," explore the cobweb-filled store or take my chances in the very weathered pottery garden. I didn’t find anything in the store that flipped my switch, but outside — Oh, my gosh! The Town Dump has been around for 30 years, and it looks like it. There were old doors and windows, furniture and iron accessories, funky pieces of yard art and stuff I still can’t figure out what it is. If you remember a television segment I did a while back, when I made a bench out an old headboard and footboard from a bed, that’s where I got it. I paid $50 for it, and it sits proudly by my front door today.
The Town Dump, 6820 E. Cave Creek Road, is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. For more information, call (480) 488-9047.
