Local Hispanic artists, performances, music and foods will be featured at Gilbert’s annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration this Saturday.
The event, put on by the Gilbert Human Relations Commission, will be at the Gilbert Municipal Center and is free.
“We’re doing this to spread cultural literacy and educate people on what Hispanics have contributed,” said Marvina Baldwin, event manager and commissioner of the Human Relations Commission.
Gilbert is approximately 15 percent Hispanic, she said.
The event will feature Hispanic-related exhibits and information on community outreach programs from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 when performances begin.
Performers include Dance Element, Folklor y Cultura Mexicana, Un Corazon Flamenco, and Sadie Westover and Company.
The celebration will end with keynote speaker Stella Pope Duarte, who will talk about the history, culture and dynamics of los Mestizos. She will speak at 4:30 p.m.
Seats for the performances and speaker will be limited, Baldwin said.
