NEW YORK - "Pure Country," a new musical based on a 1992 movie of the same name, is coming to Broadway next season.
Its producers said Thursday it will be directed by Peter Masterson, who is best known for the Broadway musical hit, "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas."
The music will be by Grammy nominee Steve Dorff, composer of Celine Dion's "Miracle" and the hit movie theme "Every Which Way But Loose." John Bettis, a Grammy nominee whose songs include Madonna's "Crazy for You," will supply the lyrics.
"Pure Country" tells the story of a country music superstar who begins to find himself after he walks out of an over-hyped concert tour. The 1992 movie starred George Strait and Lesley Ann Warren.
Previews will begin in spring 2009, with casting to be announced at a later date.
