A jury convicted a former television meteorologist on two shoplifting charges Monday in Maricopa County Superior Court. Scottsdale resident Kim Dillon, 39, was found guilty of stealing $400 worth of merchandise in August 2005 from Dillard's in Paradise Valley.
Scottsdale resident Kim Dillon, 39, was found guilty of stealing $400 worth of merchandise in August 2005 from a Dillard’s department store at Paradise Valley Mall in Phoenix.
“No one is above the law,” said Barnett Lotstein, spokesman for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. “Sometimes, otherwise law-abiding citizens get themselves involved in illegal activities. Unfortunately, that is the case here. Theft is a serious offense and we’re gratified that the jury convicted her.”
Dillon’s attorneys argued that the former Channel 3 forecaster stepped outside the store to check her voice mail and did not intend to take anything without paying. They plan to appeal the conviction.
Prosecutors haven’t decided what sentence they will pursue. Dillon faces a maximum of 3 years, nine months in prison or a minimum of probation for her two felony convictions. Her sentencing is scheduled for March 8.
