I’ll take a symphony on wheels with my tater tots and Cherry Limeade, please.
A Sonic parking lot will be front-row seating this weekend for a competition among roller-skating carhops.
Carhops employed by the fast-food drive-in chain will gather May 12 in Mesa to enter the 2012 Sonic Skate-Off national competition. The contest aims to find the top skating carhop across Sonic’s 3,500 nationwide locations.
The Mesa gathering is one of three regional submission events for the Skate-Off. Judges will select six finalists from the entire pool of candidates to compete in the July national finals in Dallas. Each finalist will receive an all-expense-paid trip to the finals competition, a skate package valued at $1,000, and the chance to snag cash prizes.
Carhops are also submitting video auditions showcasing skating tricks, flare and service skills through SonicSkateOff.com.
The Mesa event is 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. May 12 at Sonic, 10060 E. Southern Ave.
