You don’t often get to wear your bathing suit to an art museum.
That’s just what the staff at SMoCA (that’s the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art) recommends for Thursday’s annual Summer Family Night at the Museum, themed “Imaginary Worlds.”
A fountain just outside the museum becomes a playground, and kids are free to splash and blow giant bubbles, while Jeff Jones and the Earthtones provide live music.
Indoors, families will discover the exhibitions “Us Versus Them” and “Masters of Collective Reality” — both based on comic books — and “Art + Architecture: Extended Collapse,” a re-imagined environment built by Seattle architects. Docents will lead specially designed child-friendly tours of the shows, and there’s a hands-on art project where kids can create their own other-worldly creatures.
