You may see Mesa hoop dancer Tony Duncan on TV long before you ever run into him at the library, coffee shop or grocery store.
Duncan, a recording artist and five-time World Champion Hoop Dancer, appears in the new music video for Nelly Furtado’s “Big Hoops (Bigger the Better).” His brother, Kevin, and wife, Violet, also perform in the video, according to the Indian Country Today Media Network. The brothers demonstrate Native American hoop dancing moves to the upbeat song, while Violet does a fancy shawl dance. The nearly four-minute video is available for viewing on Furtado’s website, http://www.nellyfurtado.com.
Tony Duncan also stars in a current Buick-sponsored online campaign where locals show off the cities their home cities. In Duncan’s Phoenix video, he visits Tempe’s The Chuck Box hamburger joint and Phoenix’s Desert Botanical Garden, where he and his family built an Apache wikiup on display there. The video can be seen at http://rediscover.msn.com/city/32640036/video/22?WT.mc_id=rediscover.
The Duncans perform as a family across the Valley as the Yellow Bird Indian Dancers. Tony is also producer and flute player for the musical ensemble Estun-bah.
