Summer Sucks. Make yours less miserable by visiting www.locallily.com to download the free Summer Survival Guide, where you’ll find local  restaurants, shopping, events and things to do.

We live in a state where shade is scarce and a prize worth fighting for. This time of year, parking lots are subject to heated stand-offs over a single space offering even the smallest scrap of it.

Stepping out of the car and making the endless trek across the asphalt is enough to make you carry a parasol. If you’re not quite that committed, a great hat with a wide brim may be the better way to go. Make your own shade with style, I say!

In Old Town Scottsdale, the AZ-Tex Hat Company has a surprisingly large selection. Find it at 3903 N. Scottsdale Road, south of Main Street near The Pink Pony. Contact the store at (480) 481-9900 or AzTexHats.com.

In Tempe, Changing Hands Bookstore, at 6428 S. McClintock Drive, is a seasonal favorite for summer staples, including a nice selection of on-trend fedoras and big, floppy hats that are perfect for lounging poolside with a good read. Reach the store at (480) 730-0205 or ChangingHands.com.
