Long-running, award-winning KNIX (102.5 FM) morning team Tim and Willy announced on the air Thursday morning they are leaving the station effective immediately.
“We did not quit. We did not get fired. We are not leaving for a better job,” the duo said in a letter posted on timandwilly.com. “This was not about money or any fancy perks. We simply could not come to terms with the station’s parent company- Clear Channel Communications over the length of a new contract.”
Tim and Willy have been KNIX’s morning team for 10 years, and they were awarded and Academy of Country Music award for best on-air personalities of the year in 2005.
“We’re not breaking up,” the release continued. “We’re still going to be Tim & Willy. We’ve got plenty of gas in the tank (plus Willy’s got a brand new hip that should be good for at least 10 more years!). We do not wish to leave Phoenix. We hope to be back on the airwaves with you as soon as we can. We’ll be looking for the perfect place for you to hear us until our food and ammunition run out.”
The station’s new morning DJ, Ben Campbell (formerly of KMLE and nationally syndicated radio team “Ben and Brian”), will begin on Monday, Jan. 7.
